Work or something like it.

I work a lot. A lot may be an understatement. I work one job from 7:15a to 4:45p Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and my other job from 5:45p to 8a. I work myself to the point of exhaustion more days, mainly to pay off a student loan debt that I accrued by being an ostrich and sticking my head in the sand instead of dealing with it.

I consider this recompense. In life, you make choices and you deal with the results from those choices. My poor choices have led me down one road and my good choices have led me down another.

I woke up next to my girlfriend this morning, which is a rare occurence. The half an hour spent snuggling with her before dealing with the world was one of the best moments of my day. I enjoy them so much more considering what we both have to do to make our household work. She works thirds so we get to kiss each other in passing most evenings before she falls back asleep and I take care of the housework. It can definitely get exhausting but, as she said to me the other day, we just have to make it work now, raise a few kids and relax the rest of our lives.

I think that sounds pretty good to me.

Talisman and Treasure.

"I looked back at you. These moments that are talisman and treasure. Cumulative deposits - our fossil record - and the beginnings of what happens next. They are the beginning of a story, and the story we will always tell."

- Jeanette Winterson, Lighthousekeeping.

I thought long and hard about what blog name I would choose for my newest adventure. I played with different aspects of myself - being a redhead, a derby girl, bisexual, a parent - but no one characteristic was enough to define me specifically enough for me to want to base an entire blog space around.

Jeanette Winterson has long been one of my favorite authors and the writer of my favorite book ever, Written on the Body. She has spoken to me on a level no writer had before or has since. She is the writer I aspire to be like and it's only fitting that I name my blog after one of her quotes.

Ultimately, that's what this blog is for me. My fossil record, the beginning of my story, my entrance into my thirties and my life changing phenomenally over the last 365 days. A way for me to document my life for future me to come back and learn from.

I'm here, before you, on my journey to becoming who I was supposed to be.
